Hi, I’m Katie Drane! Welcome to my website! Fun Home Things is all about the stuff that makes home so special. Great food, family shenanigans, pretty and meaningful decor, cute holiday crafts that you’ll treasure for years, and tips and tricks to make life just a little less nuts.
You should probably know that we’re very real here. We kinda have to be. With 4 kids in a 3 bedroom house, life is nuts. Our house is nuts. My favorite China pattern is whatever Dollar General is currently printing on their paper plates, I love Hallmark Christmas movies, my favorite holiday is the day after Halloween when all the chocolate is on sale and I speak fluent sarcasm. If this sounds like you, we’ll get along great! If you want something Fancy. Posh. Glam. Swanky. Lavish. You’re going to be terribly disappointed. Fun Home Things is more like your favorite hoodie that is just too comfy to quit.
Life has changed dramatically for our family over the past 2 years, and if you’ve followed along for a while, you’ve probably noticed. Both of our sons, Jack and Luke were diagnosed with autism which has shifted my priorities by, oh I don’t know, A LOT. Where I was posting 3 to 4 times a week, I had to drop back to a couple of times a month.
I threw myself fully into their therapy which left little room for anything else. Thanks to swift testing, early intervention, Kentucky’s First Steps program, great educators and therapists, and my husband’s and my dedication, both boys are thriving and are expected to require little assistance down the road. I know this isn’t always the case, so I am grateful everyday that the future looks bright.
Anyway, back to Fun Home Things. If you want a great casserole recipe, I can hook you up. If you like fun seasonal crafts, DIY and decorating ideas, and tips to make your life easier, this blog is for you. If you are ‘doing Dave’ like we are, looking for encouragement and tips to save money and get out of debt, welcome! You’ve come to the right place.
I created this blog 7 years ago as a creative outlet after getting remarried and becoming a stay-at-home mom to Sophie (who was 4 at the time). Three kids later, Fun Home Things has grown, down-sized, then grown again!
I also travel around the region and teach other people how to start blogging. How cool is that?
Some sessions last an hour…
Others are more in depth like Blog Academy and last all day.
Being able to share what I know and love is so energizing. It’s one of my favorite parts about what I do.
Life has changed a lot in the few years since I started this blog, for my personal life as well. I was blessed with 3 healthy babies. Here are my 4 hilarious, spirited and precious babies–Sophie (10), Emmie (4), Jack (3), and Luke (1).
So sit back, check out the blog and let me know what you think, I would love to hear from you.
