I am old school when it comes to painting. It doesn’t matter what color is on the wall. First you do a coat of primer, then two coats of paint. Period. End of story. No exceptions. That’s the right way to do it. Heck, that’s the only way to do it. I don’t care if it says paint plus primer, You. Get. A. Separate. Primer.
So when I approached Behr to sponsor the paint for my living room makeover, I asked for primer and paint. Separately. They came back and said ‘Absolutely! But how about something better. How about our Behr Marquee paint that is a paint PLUS primer!’
Um yeah! I’m not going to say no to that! But I’ll admit, I was skeptical. It’s just been so ingrained in me that EVERY paint bleeds through. I wanted to try Behr Marquee but I also didn’t want to have to paint it again in case it didn’t cover well. After all, Delicate Lace is a light color. Lighter than what was already on my wall. Check it out:
The 5 gallon container of Behr Marquee in Delicate Lace shows up to my house and let me tell you, that thing was HEAVY. I opened it, stirred it, and was so impressed by how bright and rich and thick it was. The time had come for the moment of truth.
Bam! Perfection. I’m talking, flawless coverage. It covered everything, the first time. There was no weird in-between-color you get when the old color is bleeding through. It really, truly, looked amazing after the first coat. Confession time–I did a second coat because…well…old habits die hard. But it wasn’t because I had to. I absolutely could have left it alone after 1 coat (and definitely will next time).
I’ve got a beautiful living room and a color that looks as good on the walls as it did on the sample chip. And it’s durable. Emmie has already tried coloring the walls and the marker (not the paint) came right off with a Magic Eraser.
In a nutshell, Behr Marquee is a phenomenal paint. I’m so spoiled now. I can’t imagine using anything else. Not having to use a separate primer saved us So. Much. Time. We’re using the rest of the Delicate Lace in our dining room! I can’t wait to show you when it’s finished.
