We’re a family of 5 in a 3 bedroom house. Personal space is pretty much non-existent. For the past few years, I worked at the dining room table and was fine with that, but there were definitely times when focusing was hard. I got distracted by the piles of laundry on the couch and the dirty dishes on the counter. I longed for a quiet space to work but knew it just wasn’t in the cards, at least not until we add on to the house.
Then I came across this clever project by Emily at Elizabeth Joan Designs, where she converted her game closet into an office.
I had a closet that would be the perfect space for an office. This is what it looked like before:
It was pretty much a hot mess of all of my craft stuff and anything that spilled over from the kitchen. So I took out everything and threw out and donated what I didn’t use anymore. Then I took the shelves out, filled the holes where the tracks used to be and painted the closet Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue in Valspar Eggshell.
I centered the tracks and replaced the wire shelves with laminate shelf boards.

The grand total: $192
You know what the best part is about this whole makeover? I’m so much more productive. Being able to separate work from home has been great. When I’m done with work, I just shut the door and I’m done. When I’m ready to work, I’m not staring at unfinished housework anymore. Who would have thought a little 3ft x 3ft closet would make such a difference.
