I found this old ladder at this great antique shop up the road from my house. For $15, I couldn’t pass it up. It had seen better days and was really weathered but I loved it.
When I brought it home, I took off the rear rails and the bucket shelf but kept the front.
Instead of spray paint or latex paint, I made a yellow wash using water and two different colors of acrylic craft paint (1 oz each of Craft Smart Butter Cream and Apple Barrel Sunny Day and 1 c. distilled water). I wanted a matte finish and really let the wood to show through.
After applying the wash, I distressed the ladder with coarse grit sandpaper.
A good wipe down with a damp cloth and the ladder was ready.
All I had to do was add a few of my favorite herbs and my ladder plant stand was done!
