I found this great mirror two years ago at a thrift store for $3. It was perfect for a chalkboard upcycle, but I just never got around to it and basically forgot that I even had it.
Then I started making plans for my fall porch decorations and was so excited to find the mirror tucked away in the garage! Making it over was not hard at all. Here’s what I used:
Valspar Satin Hubbell House Golden Maize spray paint
Krylon Black Chalkboard spray paint
Sand paper (I used fine grit)
First, I covered the mirror with painter’s tape and paper. Without using primer, I spray painted the frame with the Valspar Hubbell House Golden Maize (it took two coats).
Once the frame was dry, I removed the tape from the mirror and taped off the frame. I spray painted the mirror with the Krylon Chalkboard paint. It took about 5 thin layers to cover the mirror completely and evenly. (Good news is, the chalkboard paint dries quickly!)
When the chalkboard paint was completely dry, I removed all of the painter’s tape and sanded the edges of the frame until I got the level of distressing I wanted.
After I wiped off the dust from sanding, I added my text (Click here to see an easy way to do this).
All done! My fall porch decorating is underway! I can’t wait to show you.
