Sophie’s been an only child for 5 years now. So for as excited as she is to be getting a baby sister, she’s also a little nervous that this little baby is going to take all of the love and attention she’s had to herself for so long. It’s a big deal. Which is why Ryan and I have made it a point to involve her in prepping for the baby. We also gave her a Big Girl Room Makeover before starting on the baby’s room.
She’s done a great job helping pick out clothes and toys for the baby and when it came time to shop for decorations, Sophie said “I’ve got an idea. How about I just draw her decorations?” Hey, good idea.
So I bought 3–8×10 frames, gave her some paper and total creative freedom to draw whatever she wanted for her sister.
She spent probably an hour trying to decide what to draw then another hour drawing a bunch of things until she came up with three perfect pieces.
The result–adorable, meaningful artwork made by big sis especially for little sis. I love it.
What about you? Do you have an older child who likes to make things for their younger brother or sister? What did you do to prepare your first child for the arrival of the second?
