I am really regretting not saving more of Sophie’s baby stuff. I saved a stroller, car seat, crib mattress and Diaper Genie. That’s it. If you’ve had kids lately, you know exactly how much we don’t have and how expensive it can get.
But buying baby stuff doesn’t have to break the budget and for us, it’s not going to. We’re on Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover plan and in order to stick to our goal of being debt free including the house in 5 1/2 years, I’ve made our budget for all things baby a whopping $500.
Impossible? Nope. Not if you give yourself time and you know where to look. Yard sales, thrift stores, consignment sales and classified ads are a great place to start. I thought it would take me a few months to accumulate what we needed, but I knocked a lot out this weekend. Check out the bargains I snagged at yard sales:
Space Saver High Chair $15 Retail $59.99
Graco Pack N Play $30 Retail: $49.98
Diaper Bag $2. Retail $24.99
Total spent: $52 Retail Cost: $216.95 Total savings: $164.95
I also found a lot of baby blankets and outfits for .50 to $1.00 each. If I had bought all of this new, nearly half of my budget would be gone. Crazy, right? With only about 10% of my budget spent, I still have money for big stuff, like a crib and changing table.
Are you a bargain shopper? What are some of the best deals you’ve snagged lately?
